Tour of Duty Short Story

“We’re going out tonight,” the soldier kisses his wife.
“Wear that dress you like,” he says.
“Hop in the car but before we drive I wrote something. It took quite a while.”
I’ve never said this before
I wish I mentioned it more.
On those long days and the nights
Your orders kept me alive.
Overseas, your love made easy.
You’re my tour of duty cause you said, "come back to me."
